i am currently reading both unpolished gem and growing up asian in australia, using them to help answer my research topic in my personal interest project for society and culture. your book has helped me gain much insight. i think you would be one of the most fascinating people in world to have a conversation as your words of experiance has not just provided comfort and wisdom but given me a different out look on many things!
keep writting your an inspiration! (:

Alice, what a wonderful insight to the difficulties that you and your famiily had as you settled into your new life in Australia in Unpolished Gem. Great to learn that you and your family were able to overcome the difficulties in time.

Dear Alice,

Thank you for the wonderful experience that was reading Unpolished Gem. It was beautiful and generous, and made me realise a self centred meanness that has crept into my own self since leaving university.

Alice,
I was given your book, Unpolished Gem, to read in my English class and I know it sounds weird, but the front cover actually made Unpolished Gem all the more enticing. It gave the book a fresh feel when I looked at it and just made me want to read it even more! Which was a good thing because Unpolished Gem is amazing. I found it really interesting to see what your perspective of the world was - which I guess is what autobiographies are - but coming from a no-where-near-asian background, it gave an excellent insight to your lifestyle.
I just have one question - is Agheare your Chinese name?

Anyway, I loved Unpolished Gem and won't hold back when recommending it. To everyone for that matter. By the end of December my whole family will have read it.

Thank you ever so much <3

Hi Alice ,
I saw you at our Parklands camp at Canberra. I really enjoyed your first session and interviewing you afterwards. Your most inspirational thing to me that you spoke about was "That we're golden!" I'd love to see you again one day....

I always wondered if there will a Vietnamese edition to Growing up Asian in Australia, I would love to give this to my parents and give them further insight to other oriental children growing up in there families. My Parents are very one-sided in topics of school and harshness we endure in our youths.

Hi Alice,

We met recently when you came to Yarra Valley Grammar to talk to the Year 9s about Growing Up Asian in Australia. I didn't get a chance to tell you at the lunch since I've just finished reading Unpolished Gem, but I loved the book and wanted to say thank you for telling a story that so many children of migrants can identify with.

Also, I wanted to link you to a really great article that a friend of mine recently wrote for Overland which mentions your books: http://overland.org.au/previous-issues/issue-208/feature-juliana-qian/

Thanks again for sharing your stories. You're an inspiration.
